Dr. Boyang Zhang is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair (Graduate) in the Department of Chemical Engineering at McMaster University. He is also an Associate Member of the McMaster School of Biomedical Engineering. His research focuses on advanced biofabrication techniques integrated with developmental biology insights to create human micro-tissue models for drug discovery and functional macro-tissues for regenerative medicine. Key areas include tissue engineering, biomaterials, microfluidics, organ-on-a-chip systems, and machine learning applications in biotechnology.
He holds a PhD and leads the BZhangLab, which collaborates on groundbreaking projects such as lung models for studying viral infections (e.g., COVID-19) and AI-driven drug screening. His work aims to reduce healthcare costs through innovative biotech solutions. Dr. Zhang is actively recruiting motivated graduate students interested in tissue engineering, microfluidics, and biofabrication. He can be contacted at zhangb97@mcmaster.ca or via his lab website bzhanglab.com.
Research clusters include Advanced Materials & Manufacturing, Health & Bio-Innovation, and Micro-Nano Systems. His lab emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration to address major challenges in medicine and engineering, particularly in organ regeneration and predictive drug testing.
