Ass.-Prof. Dr. Borayin Larios is a faculty member in the Department of South Asian, Tibetan and Buddhist Studies at the University of Vienna. He holds a PhD in Classical Indology from Heidelberg University and has conducted postdoctoral research at institutions including the CNRS in Paris. His research focuses on contemporary Indian religious practices, particularly Vedic traditions, mantra studies, and material religion. He is a Principal Investigator of the ERC Synergy MANTRAMS project, exploring mantras' role in religion, media, and society in Southern Asia. His interdisciplinary approach combines cultural anthropology, religious studies, and historical philology.
Larios has published extensively on Vedic schools in Maharashtra, popular Hinduism, and yoga studies. Notable works include the open-access book *Embodying the Vedas* (2017) and articles on wayside shrines and Sai Baba devotion. He collaborates with global institutions like SOAS and leads projects such as Proyecto YoLA investigating Yoga's cultural genealogy in Latin America.
His current research includes studies on mantras' global history, the anthropology of religious rituals, and the intersection of religion with urban spaces. He has received grants totaling over €9.6 million for collaborative international projects and maintains active roles in academic networks across Europe and Asia.
