Thomas Jefferson Universityمعرفی
Boopathi Ettickan, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine. His research investigates molecular mechanisms underlying smooth muscle pathologies, including GPCR-mediated signaling and mitochondrial-cytoskeleton interactions in diseases like hypertension and asthma. He is affiliated with the Center for Translational Medicine and leads an active research lab focused on these areas.
Research Interests: His work spans two primary domains: (1) GPCR-regulated calcium sensitization and contractile-protein expression in smooth muscle, and (2) desmin/vimentin cytoskeleton interactions with mitochondrial voltage-dependent anion channels (VDAC) affecting ATP synthesis and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. These studies aim to identify therapeutic targets for muscle dysfunction.
Publications: Ettickan's recent articles emphasize oncology and therapy-related mechanisms, including DNA repair modulation, immune responses to radiation, cancer treatment complications (e.g., cardiopulmonary damage), and cytoprotective strategies. Recurring themes include molecular pathways in cancer therapy resistance and tissue-specific side effects.
Affiliations: He collaborates with the Center for Translational Medicine and maintains a dedicated research laboratory for investigating mitochondrial and cytoskeletal dynamics in disease models.
