Bonnie Blaimer serves as a Research Scientist at the Center for Integrative Biodiversity Discovery and Scientific Head of the Hymenoptera collection at the Museum of Natural History Leibniz Institute for Evolution and Biodiversity Research in Berlin, Germany.
Her research focuses on the evolution, community ecology, biogeography and systematics of insects, particularly ants and other members of the order Hymenoptera (ants, wasps and bees). She employs genomic and specimen-based methods to address contemporary questions in insect evolution and diversity. Her work advances understanding of historical and contemporary evolutionary processes that have shaped insect distributions, with special emphasis on improving insect systematics through integrative approaches combining molecular, morphological and ecological data.
Dr. Blaimer's publication record demonstrates expertise in ant diversity patterns, particularly in Madagascar, and in the phylogenomics of Camponotine ants and their bacterial endosymbionts. Her research integrates field sampling with laboratory analysis to expand knowledge of insect biodiversity.
As Scientific Head of the Hymenoptera collection, she oversees one of the world's significant collections of ants, wasps, and bees, which serves as a critical resource for biodiversity research and discovery.
