Dr. Pok Man (Bob) Leung is a Research Fellow in Microbiology at Monash University's Biomedicine Discovery Institute. He leads projects on microbial ecophysiology and ecogenomics, focusing on environmental change implications. He holds a first-class Environmental Science degree from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (2018) and a PhD from Monash University (2023), awarded the Mollie-Holman Medal for his thesis on microbial metabolism in oligotrophic ecosystems.
His current research explores microbial dynamics in drylands, tree surfaces, and greenhouse gas conversion. Key grants include an ARC DECRA Fellowship (2025) and roles in the ARC Securing Antarctica's Environmental Future Initiative and the Joint Genome Institute. His team investigates climate-active gas cycling, spatiotemporal microbial activity, and novel biocatalysts for bioproducts.
- Education: BSc (First Class) in Environmental Science, HKUST (2018); PhD, Monash University (2023)
- Fellowships: ARC DECRA, FMNHS Early Career Fellowship
- Key Projects: Spatiotemporal dynamics in drylands, methane-cycling microbes in Melaleuca species, cave ecosystem studies
Recent articles highlight microbial glucose metabolism in sediments, hydrogenase function in archaea, and hydrogen-driven marine bacteria. Awards include Best Talk (2020) and BayCenSI funding (2024).
