Bob Kooi is a Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Science, Systems Biology department at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His research focuses on mathematical modeling of ecological and epidemiological systems, including predator-prey dynamics, disease transmission, and complex systems analysis. He has supervised 8 PhD theses and contributed to 119 peer-reviewed publications. His work addresses Sustainable Development Goals related to health and ecological sustainability.
- Academic Roles: Editorial board member of Ecological Complexity (2016-2017) and Springer (2018-2020).
- Research Interests: Epidemic modeling, nonlinear dynamics, ecological stability, and systems biology.
Recent studies highlight his contributions to understanding dengue fever transmission dynamics, predator-prey interactions with group defense mechanisms, and the role of allelochemicals in algal blooms. His work integrates bifurcation analysis and mathematical frameworks to explore system behaviors under varying parameters.
Key contributions include advancing methodologies for modeling multi-strain epidemics and ecological tipping points, with applications to public health and environmental management.
