Bo Tao is an Assistant Professor at the University of Connecticut's Department of Natural Resources & the Environment and Associate Director of the Connecticut Institute of Water Resources. His work integrates remote sensing, soil biogeochemical cycling, and ecosystem modeling to study land use-climate change interactions.
- Education: Ph.D. in Physical Geography (Chinese Academy of Sciences), M.S. and B.S. in Land Use Planning (Northeast Agricultural University).
Research spans land-use reconstruction, process-based ecosystem modeling, and ecological impacts of global environmental changes. He employs multi-data analysis and remote sensing to understand carbon dynamics, water resources, and agricultural climate adaptation.
The 15 most recent publications (2019–2025) focus on climate change effects on crop phenology, biochar sustainability, no-tillage impacts, nitrate leaching patterns, remote sensing integration for yield estimation, and wildfire emission projections. Key keywords include Climate Resilience, Soil Carbon, and Ecosystem Modeling.
As Associate Director, he leads water resource initiatives at UConn. His teaching includes the Introduction to Water Resources course. While no formal awards or student advisees are listed, his work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches combining satellite data, field experiments, and climate models.
