Blažej Baláž

Blažej Baláž is a Professor and Head of the Department of Fine Arts Pedagogy at the Faculty of Education, Trnava University. He has taught at the university since 1994 and serves as creator and guarantor of the Animation of Fine Arts and Pedagogy of Fine Arts study programs.

Education:

• Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava (1977-1983)
• Habilitated as Associate Professor in Fine Arts at Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava (1996)

Prof. Baláž's artistic research centers on contemporary practices including political, environmental, and activist art through neo-conceptual frameworks. His work integrates postmodern strategies across painting, graphics, performance, mail art, and intermedia installations, critically engaging with social justice, ecological crises, and feminist discourse through spatial, performative, and activist methodologies.

Scientific Awards:

• Award of the Union of Fine Artists of the Czech Republic, 9th International Biennial of Drawing, Pilsen, 2014
• Special Award by the Jury, Osten Biennial of Drawing, Skopje, 2016

As an educator, Prof. Baláž directs the intermedia studio and studio of contemporary tendencies, where students master diverse media techniques and visual coding systems. His pedagogy emphasizes applying contemporary art strategies in political, ecological, and social contexts through medial experimentation, spatial interventions, and activist frameworks that challenge traditional artistic boundaries.
