معرفی
Thomas Blaschke is a Professor for Geoinformatics and Head of the Department of Geoinformatics – Z_GIS at the University of Salzburg. His work integrates methodological research in Geographic Information Science (GIScience) and Object-Based Image Analysis (OBIA) with applications in spatial modeling, natural hazard assessment, and urban livability analysis.
- MSc in Geography/Geographic Information Systems (1986–1992)
- PhD in Geography (1992–1995)
- Habilitation (2001)
His research focuses on spatial analysis, decision-support systems, and remote sensing data quality. He leads the Landscape Analysis Research Group (LARG) and co-leads Z_GIS, a hub for geospatial research and education. Blaschke’s supervised projects span multi-hazard susceptibility mapping, big Earth observation data analysis, and participatory community planning.
Blaschke has held visiting professorships at the University of Vechta (Germany) and the University of South Carolina (USA). He directs the researchstudio iSPACE and contributes to international networks like the Association for Geoinformatics, GeoIT, and Navigation.
- Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences
- Fulbright Professorship recipient
Blaschke supervises numerous PhD students, including Karl Atzmanstorfer, Sepideh Tavakkoli, and Sansar Raj Meena, whose works address topics such as landslide inventory, data fusion, and urban planning.
He is based at the University of Salzburg’s Department of Geoinformatics – Z_GIS, a leading center for geospatial education and research.
