Blake Hestir

Blake Hestir is a Professor of Philosophy and Associate Director of the TCU Contemplative Studies Program at Texas Christian University (TCU), affiliated with AddRan College of Liberal Arts. His research focuses on Ancient Greek Philosophy, Philosophy of Mind, Enactivism, Phenomenology, Ecology, and Contemplative Studies. He holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Florida State University (1998), an M.A. (1996), and a B.A. from TCU (1988). He is also a certified RYT 200 Yoga Instructor.

His research explores intersections between ancient philosophy and contemporary issues like consciousness, ecology, and contemplative practices. Notable work includes studies on Platonic metaphysics and Aristotelian truth theory. He teaches courses such as Ancient Philosophy, Philosophy of Mind, and existential topics. He leads a unique study abroad program in Costa Rica, blending philosophy with mindfulness, ecology, and cultural immersion in natural environments.

Teaching includes PHIL 10103 (Mind, Meaning, Morality), PHIL 20273 (Mind, Consciousness, Self), and specialized courses on Socrates, existentialism, and ecology. His Costa Rica program integrates philosophical inquiry with experiential learning in biodiversity-rich environments.
