Bjarke Stanley Nielsen

Bjarke Stanley Nielsen is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies at the University of Copenhagen's Faculty of Humanities. His research bridges global intellectual history, esoteric traditions, and internationalism, focusing on the Theosophical Society's historical engagement with global institutions from the 19th century through the United Nations era.

He earned his PhD in Religion and Global History (2024) with a dissertation on universal brotherhood conceptualizations, preceded by an MA in History with focus on Esoteric Traditions (2019) and a BA in History with minor in Science of Religions (2017). His doctoral work examined the Theosophical Society's universal history framework between 1875-1950.

Nielsen specializes in the history of esotericism, global macro-history, and intellectual history, critically analyzing intersections between esoteric traditions and mainstream historical narratives. His scholarship challenges methodological nationalism and Eurocentrism while exploring geopolitical dimensions of spiritual movements in the 19th-20th centuries.

His publications reveal consistent focus on Theosophy as a transnational phenomenon, highlighting its role in shaping global consciousness through universal history frameworks and institutional engagements. This work demonstrates evolving methodological rigor in connecting esoteric discourses with geopolitical currents.

Affiliated with the Centre for the Study of Theology and Esotericism (CCSTE), Nielsen actively contributes to international scholarly discourse through conference presentations at venues including the European Society for the Study of Western Esotericism and the International Theosophical History Conference.
