Björn Ottersten

Björn Ottersten is a Visiting Professor at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), where he works within the School of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Information Science and Engineering. He has held significant leadership roles, including Head of the Department for Signals, Sensors, and Systems and Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering at KTH, as well as founding Director of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability, and Trust (SnT) at the University of Luxembourg. His academic career spans multiple prestigious institutions such as Stanford University, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, and the University of Luxembourg.

Dr. Ottersten earned an M.S. in Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics from Linköping University (1986) and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University (1990). He was awarded the Knight of the Grand Ducal Order of the Oak Crown in 2024 by H.R.H. the Grand Duke of Luxembourg.

His research interests include Signal Processing, Wireless Communications, MIMO Systems, Machine Learning, Physical Layer Security, and Optimization in Communications. His work has led to groundbreaking contributions in satellite systems, cognitive radio, and parametric spectral estimation, as reflected in his students' thesis topics.

Dr. Ottersten has co-authored numerous award-winning publications, including multiple IEEE Signal Processing Society Best Paper Awards and IEEE Conference Best Paper Awards. He has received two ERC Advanced Research Grants and is a Fellow of IEEE, EURASIP, AAIA, and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences.

He has advised over 48 PhD candidates and hosted numerous postdoctoral scholars, many of whom have become university professors or IEEE Fellows. His leadership extends to editorial roles, including Editor-in-Chief of EURASIP Signal Processing, and board memberships with the IEEE Signal Processing Society, ERC Scientific Council, and Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research. He also founded the SnT center in Luxembourg, advancing research in security and trust.
