معرفی
Biswas Agnihotri is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. They also serve as a Senior Consultant in Neonatology at the National University Hospital, Singapore since July 2018, and hold an Assistant Professor appointment that began January 2022.
Dr. Agnihotri's research focuses on critical areas in neonatology and paediatrics:
- Antenatal steroid therapy and its long-term developmental effects
- Birth anthropometry and growth patterns in Asian populations
- Neonatal resuscitation guidelines development and implementation
- Impact of infectious diseases (particularly COVID-19) on infants
- Kangaroo mother care implementation in low-resource settings
- Exclusive breastfeeding practices across South Asia
Analysis of their publication record reveals a strong emphasis on evidence-based clinical practice that directly informs medical guidelines. Their most recent work (2025) examines the balance between therapeutic benefits and potential long-term harms of antenatal steroid therapy, while their 2024 research demonstrates neurodegenerative-associated transcriptional changes in the fetal brain from steroid exposure. The 2023 birth anthropometry study among Asian racial groups has led to proposed new growth charts for Singaporean populations.
Notable scientific contributions include the Singapore Neonatal Resuscitation Guidelines (2016, 2021) and clinical guidance for managing infants born to mothers with suspected/confirmed COVID-19. Their work on kangaroo mother care implementation in Bangladesh (2022) has demonstrated feasibility in low-resource settings with potential to reduce mortality among low-birth-weight infants.
Dr. Agnihotri's research demonstrates significant impact, with their 2008 study on birth weight trends across generations accumulating 32 citations and the 2017 prenatal surgery consensus paper receiving 13 citations. Their regional collaborations across Asia, particularly with Bangladesh and other South Asian countries, reflect a commitment to addressing healthcare challenges in diverse settings while maintaining high scientific rigor.
