Birte Siem

Prof. Dr. Birte Siem is a full Professor of Social and Organisational Psychology of Social Work at Leuphana University of Lüneburg, Germany. She leads research and teaching initiatives focused on social work, social pedagogics, diversity, and discrimination.

Research Interests:

• Social work practice and service delivery
• Diversity and discrimination in client–provider relationships
• Educational inequality and ethnic classroom composition effects
• Spatial stereotypes and group-based disparities
• Inclusive climate movements

Her recent publications explore how stereotypes tied to space influence access to social services, the demographic composition of climate activism, and strategies to reconstruct diversity within professional social work interactions.

She currently coordinates or partners on multiple funded projects, including Adultismus und Diskriminierung entlang des jungen Alters (2024–2025), Context-based discrimination in education outcomes (2021–2023, German Research Foundation), and the teaching project KoDiTa: Konstruktiver Diversity Talk für angehende Lehrkräfte (2025–2027).
