- Master's in Clinical Linguistics, Linguistics and Psychology, University of Bielefeld (2006, "With distinction")
Dr. Schaller's research focuses on conversation analysis of doctor-patient interactions and science communication. Her work bridges linguistics with medical practice, particularly in developing linguistic tools for differential diagnosis in neurological conditions like epilepsy and narcolepsy. She examines how language patterns in medical consultations can inform clinical decision-making and improve patient-physician communication.
Her recent publications demonstrate a strong trend toward applying conversation analysis to medical contexts, with particular emphasis on developing practical diagnostic tools. She has contributed significantly to understanding how linguistic features in patient narratives can distinguish between different medical conditions.
- Dissertation Prize of the Westphalian-Lippish University Society, Bielefeld (2013)
Dr. Schaller provides academic counseling for Linguistics students and serves as a recognition contact point for the Bachelor of Linguistics program. She has been involved in conceptual development of the "Psyche. Language. Communication" profile for the model medical study program at Bielefeld University since 2020.
She is active in public science communication through the "Plauderlabor" (Chat Lab), which brings conversation research to the public. Dr. Schaller also participates in the SFB 1646 research project on linguistic creativity in communication, specifically in the public relations component.
