Dr. Birgitta Bader-Zaar is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of History, University of Vienna, affiliated with the Faculty of History and Cultural Studies. Her work spans legal and constitutional history, women's and gender history, and transnational comparative studies of democracy and slavery.

Recent Publications analyze democratization in Europe post-WWI, electoral reforms in Habsburg Austria, and legal status of foreigners in the 18th–19th centuries. She co-edits the Gerald Stourzh Lectures on Human Rights and Democracy.
