Dr. Binyang Hou is an Associate Professor of Physics in the Department of Chemistry and Physical Science at Muskingum University, part of the School of Natural and Social Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), an M.S. from UIC, and a B.S. in Materials Science from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). His research focuses on surface science, materials chemistry, and interfacial phenomena, with expertise in X-ray techniques and ionic liquid systems.
His work includes studies on zirconia surfaces under extreme conditions, hydration structures at material-water interfaces, and high-pressure physics in materials like SnSe. He has conducted postdoctoral research at the Carnegie Institute’s High Pressure Collaborative Access Team and the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, among others. Key contributions span nanocomposite crystallization, ionic liquid ordering, and surface reactions in catalytic systems.
Publications highlight advancements in vibrational spectroscopy, X-ray reflectivity, and interfacial electrochemistry. His research has implications for energy materials, corrosion science, and nanotechnology. Collaborations with institutions like Argonne National Laboratory and the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility underscore his interdisciplinary approach.
