Dr. Binjian Nie is a Departmental Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at the University of Oxford. Previously, he held roles as a Research Fellow (2017–2022) and T-ERA Senior Research Fellow with the Energy Research Accelerator before joining Oxford in 2022. He earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering in 2019, following a BSc and MEng in Chemical Engineering and three years of industry experience in chemical process engineering.
His research focuses on energy storage, carbon capture, and sustainable technologies, including thermal, chemical, and thermochemical energy storage systems. He leads the Energy Storage and Energy Carriers group, advancing applications in renewable energy integration, industrial decarbonization, and clean cooling/district heating. His work has led to patents in energy storage materials and systems, with industry collaborations driving commercial applications.
