Prof. Bing Dong is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Syracuse University, affiliated with the Built Environment Science and Technology (BEST) Lab and Syracuse Center of Excellence (SyracuseCoE). His research focuses on integrating smart buildings into urban energy systems through advanced modeling, optimization, and controls. He holds a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University, M.S. from National University of Singapore, and B.E. from Nanjing University of Technology.
- Education:
- Ph.D. in Building Performance and Diagnostics, Carnegie Mellon University
- M.S. in Building Science, National University of Singapore
- B.E. in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Nanjing University of Technology
His research interests include occupant behavior modeling, buildings-to-grid integration, urban energy systems, and quantum computing applications in HVAC. Notable projects include NSF CAREER-funded community energy planning and DOE-funded spatial-temporal energy forecasting. He has advised PhD students such as Ji Zhou, Yiting Yang, and Yongjun Jin (2023).
Awards: 2023 IBPSA World Fellow, ASHRAE Distinguished Service Award, NSF CAREER Award (2019), and 2023 Best Paper Awards in Building and Environment journals.
Teaching focuses on HVAC design and building performance modeling. The BEST Lab develops advanced controls and integrates urban infrastructure with energy systems, supported by sponsors like NSF, DOE, and NYSERDA.
