Bin Liu

Dr. Bin Liu is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in the Department of Management Science at the University of Strathclyde (since 2019). Previously, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Waterloo, Canada. He holds a BE in Automation from Zhejiang University (China) and a PhD in Industrial Engineering from City University of Hong Kong. His research focuses on risk & reliability analysis, intelligent asset management, decision-making under uncertainty, and data analytics, with applications in manufacturing, utilities, and energy sectors. He actively supervises PhD students and leads/co-invests in funded projects such as the Human-in-the-loop AI Explainability project (2025–2026) and COFFEAD (2024–2026).

Dr. Liu’s academic contributions include over 80 peer-reviewed publications, with recent works emphasizing fault diagnosis, predictive maintenance, and trustworthy AI systems. He has received multiple awards, including the Best Paper Award (2022) and Outstanding Reviewer recognitions from journals like Reliability Engineering & System Safety. His professional activities include editorial roles and visiting research positions at institutions like Université Paris Saclay.

Key projects include developing AI-driven maintenance frameworks, cost-forecasting systems, and human-machine collaboration models. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in advancing reliable and sustainable industrial practices through data-driven solutions.
