معرفی
Bilon Khambu is an Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Tulane University School of Medicine, and a member of the Tulane Cancer Center. He holds a PhD in Medicine from Kyoto University (2011) and completed postdoctoral training at Indiana University School of Medicine. His research focuses on autophagy in liver injury, inflammation, fibrosis, and cancer, particularly the HMGB1-RAGE axis and FXR/NRF2 signaling.
Education
- MSc (Medical Biochemistry), B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Nepal (2005)
- BSc (Microbiology), Tribhuvan University, Nepal (2001)
- PhD (Medicine), Graduate School of Medicine, Kyoto University, Japan (2008-2011)
- Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Indiana University (2011-2014)
Khambu's research integrates autophagy with metabolic regulation, inflammatory signaling, and liver disease pathogenesis. He has pioneered studies on HMGB1 in autophagy-deficient liver tumorigenesis and lysosomal dysfunction in alcoholic liver disease. His work spans basic mechanistic research to translational applications.
Recent publications highlight his contributions to autophagy regulation in cholestatic injury, liver cancer, and gut microbiota interactions. He has received accolades including the Best Poster Award at the 10th ISALPD/C and ASIP Educational Fund Scholar recognition.
Scientific Awards
- Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) predoctoral and doctoral scholarships (2007-2011)
- iCeMS Retreat Best Poster (2009)
- ASIP Trainee Award (2015)
- AASLD travel awards and 'Best of the Liver Meeting' recognition (2018)
