Billy Palumbo is a Professor of Film in the Department of Film at Oklahoma City University's Arts & Sciences School. He directs the Wide Open Experimental Film Festival (WOEFF), an annual event showcasing avant-garde cinema. Holding both a BA and MFA from Emerson College, his work explores the fluidity of moving images through experimental techniques. Key research interests include abstract imagery, historical reinterpretation, and the intersection of cinema with contemporary art forms.
Palumbo's films have screened globally at festivals like Alchemy Film & Arts, Athens International Film + Video Festival, and Onion City Experimental Film Festival. Notable awards include Best Experimental Film at the Online New England Film Festival (2015) and Best Short at the Mass Reality Check @ Salem Film Fest (2015). His 2015 film Curley: A Historiophoty challenges traditional historical narratives through non-linear storytelling.
Academic contributions include organizing WOEFF and writing program spotlights for the festival. He also curates the Spoons on the Ground Instagram project, documenting found spoons as a meditative artistic practice. Recent works like Write Your Sunshine On My Skin (2025) and Billy Forever (2024) continue his exploration of existential themes through kinetic imagery and conceptual frameworks.
