Bill Humphreys is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Biological Sciences, The University of Western Australia. His research focuses on biodiversity, evolutionary biology, and groundwater ecology, with a particular emphasis on subterranean fauna and chemotrophic microbial communities. He contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to life on land and below water.
Key research interests include aridification impacts, species radiation in extreme environments, and the ecological roles of groundwater ecosystems. His recent work explores virus-host interactions in underground estuaries and the global significance of groundwater biodiversity.
Notable collaborations involve international teams studying Australian crustaceans, beetles, and microbial systems. He has published over 90 articles, with 2024 contributions focusing on topics like Dytiscidae adaptation and groundwater keystone ecosystems.
