Biing Hwang Juang is a Professor at the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, holding the Motorola Foundation Chair and Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar titles. His career spans prestigious institutions including Bell Laboratories and Avaya Labs, where he led groundbreaking research in speech and signal processing.
- Education: PhD in Electrical Engineering from University of California, Santa Barbara (1981); MA (1978) and BA from National Taiwan University.
Research Interests: Specializes in speech processing (recognition, synthesis, coding, enhancement), multi-channel signal processing, stochastic modeling, and multimedia/multimodal communications. His work has advanced speech recognition algorithms, echo cancellation, and real-time teleconferencing systems.
Scientific Contributions: Co-authored the seminal textbook Fundamentals of Speech Recognition with L.R. Rabiner and holds nearly 20 patents. Notable inventions include the network echo canceller, speech CODECs, and the Moviefone speech server.
