Biao Xiang is the Director of the Research Department 'Anthropology of Economic Experimentation' at the Max Planck Institute. He holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Oxford, where he previously served as a Professor. His research focuses on migration, mobility, and political economy in China, India, and other Asian regions. Key works include Global Body Shopping and Transcending Boundaries, which have been widely recognized. He leads a department exploring socioeconomic challenges through the 'common concerns' approach, addressing issues like urbanization, social repair, and global thinking rooted in the Global South.
