Dr. Bianca Fadel is a Research Fellow in Human Geography Policy and Development at Northumbria University's Geography and Environmental Sciences Department, affiliated with the Centre for Global Development (CGD). She holds a PhD from Northumbria University (2023), an MA in Humanitarian Action from Université catholique de Louvain (2013), and a BA in International Relations from Universidade Estadual Paulista (2010). Her work focuses on volunteering in crises, particularly among refugee youth in Uganda and Burundi.
Research interests include Volunteering, Community Development, Humanitarian Action, Global South dynamics, and Decolonisation. She participates in policy projects with VSO, Habitat for Humanity, and the Red Cross. Professional experience includes humanitarian diplomacy at Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and youth volunteering projects with the Brazilian Red Cross.
Key affiliations include the Refugee Youth Volunteering Uganda (RYVU) team, UNV’s Plan of Action Expert Group, and the Volunteering in Conflicts and Emergencies (ViCE) Initiative. Her research explores volunteering’s role in resilience, inequality, and decolonizing methodologies.
