Bianca Dang is an Assistant Professor and the Donald W. Logan Family Endowed Chair of American History at the University of Washington's Department of History, part of the College of Arts & Sciences. Her research focuses on Black freedom movements and state coercion in the Americas during the 19th century, particularly gendered struggles for autonomy in Haiti and the U.S.
- Education: Ph.D. in History and African American Studies, Yale University (2021)
Her current manuscript project, Making Meaningful Freedom: Gendered Struggles for Autonomy in the U.S. and Haiti, 1780-1880, examines how Black women employed legal, diplomatic, and religious strategies to combat racism and misogyny. Research interests include slavery, social movements, and comparative transnational history.
