Bhuva Narayan

Bhuva Narayan is an Associate Professor of Digital and Social Media at the University of Technology Sydney's School of Communication, where she also serves as Director of Graduate Research for the Faculty of Design and Society. A transdisciplinary researcher with expertise spanning information science, digital media studies, social sciences, HCI, and UX design, she focuses on social justice applications. Prior to academia, she spent 20+ years in publishing as a consultant, editor, and publisher.

Her research explores human information interaction, digital ethnography, and sociotechnical systems, with ongoing projects including:

• Building Tech Trust in older adults (wearables co-design)
• Youth Trust and Technology (secure AI applications)
• AI in the Library (national literacy program)

Her publication portfolio (146+ outputs) demonstrates strong emphasis on:

• Human-centered technology design
• Information behavior across lifespans
• Digital literacy and equity
• Ethnographic methodologies

Recent works increasingly address aging, AI ethics, and community-centered informatics.

Awards include the UTS Vice-Chancellor's Research Excellence Award for Supervision (2020) and recognition by the Australian Council for Graduate Research (2021). She actively contributes to academic leadership as judge for the Eureka Prize for Outstanding Mentor of Researchers.

She leads multiple grants including:

• Trustworthy Digital Society-funded wearables project (2024-2026)
• AI literacy development for libraries (2024-2025)
• Digital Health Literacy for Refugees (2023-2025)

and directs research through the Centre for Research on Education in a Digital Society.
