Dr. Bhavya Tiwari is an Associate Professor in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages at the University of Houston, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. Her research focuses on comparative literature, world literature, and translation studies with emphasis on multilingual contexts in the Global South. She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature (English, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Spanish) from the University of Texas at Austin (2014). Notable achievements include the 2021 Harry Levin Prize Honorable Mention for her book Beyond English: World Literature and India, and 2011 Horst Frenz Prize Honorable Mention for her graduate work.
Dr. Tiwari's research examines Indian literary traditions, postcolonial frameworks, and transnational literary networks. She co-edited World Literature and Postcolonial Studies (2020-2023) and is currently exploring intersections between comparative literature and contemporary technology. Courses taught include Cultures of India, Comparative Modernisms, and Indian Film: Bollywood and Beyond.
Her awards include participation in the 50-in-5 program (2021-2022), designed to elevate UH's research standing. Ongoing projects include a manuscript on technology's impact on comparative literature.
