Assoc. Prof. Dr. Beyza Taskin is a faculty member at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), serving in the Faculty of Civil Engineering's Civil Engineering Department. She holds the rank of Associate Professor and has extensive experience in academia, including roles as Deputy Director of Research and Application Center (2024–present), Vice President of Department (2023–present), and Head of Department (2019–2020). Her primary research interests are Reinforced Concrete Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Earthquake Engineering.
Her educational background includes a PhD in Structural Engineering from ITU (1994–2001) and a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (1988–1992). She has conducted visiting research at the University of California, Berkeley (2003–2004) and Aalborg University (1997).
Taskin’s research focuses on seismic performance evaluation of buildings, structural rehabilitation, and advanced analysis methods. She has supervised numerous PhD and master’s theses on topics like base isolation, nonlinear dynamics, and earthquake-resistant design. Her work often addresses Turkish seismic codes and real-world earthquake case studies, such as the 1999 İzmit and 2011 Van earthquakes.
She is a member of prominent organizations including EERI, ASCE, and the Turkish National Committee for Earthquake Engineering. Her recent projects include developing vulnerability functions for RC buildings and applying machine learning to seismic displacement analysis (2022).
Taskin has contributed over 30 peer-reviewed articles, with recent work focusing on Hazus capacity curves, earthquake epicenter forecasting, and NDT techniques for rapid building assessment. Her research bridges theoretical analysis and practical applications in disaster-resilient infrastructure.
