Beverly King serves as Associate Professor of Psychology & Counseling and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Institutional Effectiveness at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

Dr. King specializes in developmental psychology with expertise in child social development, particularly in early childhood contexts. Her research spans cross-cultural child and lifespan development, sexual orientation issues, and cross-cultural healthcare competency. She has developed significant expertise in understanding children from diverse family structures including those with gay or lesbian parents, and has created training materials on safe zone practices and working with children of difficult temperament.
Her scholarly work demonstrates a strong commitment to educational resources, particularly through the MERLOT system, where she has contributed extensively to psychology teaching materials.
