Bettina Dennerlein is a Professor of Gender Studies and Islamic Studies at the University of Zurich since March 2009. She also serves as Head of the Master's program in Gender Studies and Co-director of the Gender Studies doctoral program with Prof. Dr. Angelika Malinar.
Her research focuses on social and cultural history of the modern Muslim world (North Africa and Middle East), combining historical analysis with gender theory. Key areas include Islamic family law, women's rights, postcolonialism, and the intersection of gender with religion and politics.

- Equal Opportunities Officer at UZH's Asian and Oriental Institute
- Member of editorial boards for Hawwa (Brill), Asian Studies/Etudes Asiatiques (De Gruyter), and the academic advisory board at Berlin Graduate School Muslim Cultures and Societies (FU Berlin)
- Founding member of Bloomsbury's Gender and Islam book series
