Bethany Stoddard is a PhD student and Researcher (“Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin”) at the University of Bonn, affiliated with the Department of English, American & Celtic Studies. She is supervised by Prof. Dr. Robert Fuchs on the project Young German Learner English: Complexity, Accuracy, and Fluency. Her research focuses on psycholinguistics, first/second language acquisition, and the syntax-discourse interface, employing quantitative methods from psycholinguistics, corpus linguistics, and computational linguistics.
Her doctoral work examines dative and benefactive alternations in young German learners of English, exploring cross-linguistic influence from L1 German on L2 English structures. Key contributions include corpus-based studies on learner English (2024) and experimental work on child language processing (2021). Her presentations span developmental psycholinguistics, artificial language learning (2023), and learnability theory (2020).
