Bethan Louise Pinhey is a Lecturer and Course Director for Northern Ireland's first veterinary degree program at Ulster University, where she has spent over 12 years teaching and mentoring aspiring veterinary nurses. Qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) in 2009 from the Royal Veterinary College/Middlesex University, she brings 16 years of combined clinical and educational experience to her role.
Her professional interests span veterinary nursing education, oncology (where she holds a PGCert qualification), practice management, and animal welfare. Dr. Pinhey is particularly focused on how veterinary nurses can expand their roles in client education, chronic disease management, and telehealth to strengthen veterinary teams and improve patient outcomes. She advocates for structured career pathways similar to human nursing that would recognize advanced skills and enable greater autonomy for veterinary professionals.
Dr. Pinhey holds a BSc Hons in Veterinary Nursing and Practice Management, a PGCert in Veterinary Nursing Oncology, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Her clinical background includes working in busy practices with emergency and out-of-hours care, and she has adapted her small animal nursing expertise to mixed and farm animal practice in Northern Ireland.
