Beth Meyerand is a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, affiliated with both the Department of Medical Physics and the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Her teaching focuses on undergraduate and graduate-level biomedical engineering, particularly the undergraduate design sequence, while her research develops advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) techniques to model human brain connectivity and study neurological diseases like epilepsy, stroke, Alzheimer’s, and brain tumors.
In her administrative role as Associate Dean in the Graduate School, she leads admissions initiatives, oversees academic affairs, and trains faculty in graduate student mentorship. Her mentoring philosophy emphasizes holistic career development, including communication skills, networking, and fostering future mentors.
Beyond academia, Beth served in the U.S. Coast Guard, which instilled values of service and resilience, and she enjoys outdoor activities year-round. She is also a parent of two young adults, one of whom is currently a UW–Madison student, allowing her to experience the university through their perspective.
