Beth Matusoff Merfish

Beth Matusoff Merfish serves as Associate Professor of Art History and Chair of the Department of Liberal Arts within the College of Human Sciences and Humanities at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Her work bridges academic research with public engagement through collaborations with institutions like Space Center Houston and the UHCL Art Gallery.

Research Interests focus on museum studies, public arts, and interdisciplinary approaches to science communication. She emphasizes community partnerships to enhance cultural and scientific literacy. In 2021, Mayor Sylvester Turner appointed her as the inaugural chair of the Houston Women's Commission, where she advocates for gender equity across healthcare, employment, and safety sectors in Houston.
