Professor Beth Lord holds a Personal Chair and serves as Head of the School of Divinity, History, Philosophy & Art History at the University of Aberdeen. She earned her PhD from the University of Warwick (2004) and previously taught at the University of Dundee (2004–2012). Her research focuses on early modern and modern philosophy, particularly Spinoza, Kant, German Idealism, and Deleuze, with current projects addressing Spinoza and equality, and Spinoza's relevance to the climate crisis. She has authored multiple books including Kant and Spinozism and edited volumes such as Spinoza's Philosophy of Ratio. Her teaching spans courses on Descartes, Hume, Kant, and political philosophy. Lord leads interdisciplinary research, including an AHRC-funded project on 'Equalities of Wellbeing in Philosophy and Architecture' (2013–2016). She is affiliated with the Centre for Knowledge and Society and the Royal Institute of Philosophy. Her work bridges philosophy with environmental ethics and museum studies, exploring concepts like affective dimensions of climate crisis and Spinoza’s metaphysical foundations.
