Beth Hoffman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health. Her work bridges media studies and public health, focusing on leveraging entertainment media for health promotion and education.

Beth’s research examines how health topics are portrayed in popular media and how these narratives can influence public health outcomes. She specializes in mixed-methods approaches, social media analysis, and entertainment education strategies, particularly through television and digital platforms.
Her recent publications explore themes such as e-cigarette misinformation on YouTube, vaccine communication on social media, and the use of medical dramas for anti-racist curricula. These works highlight interdisciplinary collaborations in health sciences education and tobacco research.
Scientific Contributions:
- Co-investigator on NIH-funded research addressing nicotine and tobacco misinformation on youth-oriented social media.
- Developed the undergraduate course PUBHLT402: Entertainment Media and Health.
Beth mentors students through the Career Help, Advancement and Achievement Mentorship Program (CHAMP) and evaluates youth CPR education programs in partnership with the Center for Cardiac Arrest Survival (CCAS) and Akoma United. Her teaching includes courses like BCHS 2554 Introduction to Community Health and PUBHLT 300 Community-Based Approaches to Public Health.
