Beth Dumont is a Research Professor at the University of Maine, affiliated with the Graduate School of Biomedical Science and Engineering (GSBSE) and associated with The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) through the GSBSE JAX program. Her research focuses on understanding the genetic and molecular mechanisms that generate and regulate genetic diversity.
- Education: Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Wisconsin (2005-2010), advised by Dr. Bret Payseur.
- B.A. in Biology and Anthropology from Cornell University (2001-2005).
Research Interests encompass mutation rates, recombination frequencies, and chromosome transmission biases. She combines cytogenetic, genomic, and quantitative genetic approaches to study these processes in mammals, particularly in wild house mice and voles. Her work explores the pseudoautosomal region's evolutionary history and recombination rate regulation.
Selected Publications highlight her contributions to mutation spectra analysis, meiotic recombination, and gene conversion dynamics. Her 2021 BMC Biology study examines how natural selection shapes genetic variation, while her 2017 Genetics papers dissect X-chromosome control of recombination and meiotic crossing over.
