Dr Bertram Daum is an Associate Professor at the Living Systems Institute of the University of Exeter, UK, where he has held a faculty position since 2024. His research focuses on the structural biology of archaeal and parasitic systems using cryo-electron microscopy.
- Qualifications: Dr phil. nat. (2014, University of Frankfurt), MSc (2008, University of Kassel)
- Research Themes: Archaeal surface proteins, microsporidia infection mechanisms, molecular machine structures, nanotechnology applications
Recent Publications (2024-2017) examine S-layer architectures, archaellum machinery, and ribosomal hibernation states. His work has significant implications for biotechnology, drug delivery, and understanding extremophile adaptations.
Scientific Awards include the 2014 Otto Hahn Medal for junior researchers and the 2014 Young Investigator’s Prize in cryoEM. The Daum Lab operates cryoEM facilities shared with the University of Bristol and collaborates with the Gold Lab on molecular mechanisms.
