Dr Bertie Muller is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at Swansea University, affiliated with the School of Mathematics and Computer Science within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. His research expertise spans Artificial Intelligence, Technology Ethics, Formal Languages, Mathematical Logic, Models of Concurrency, and Formal Verification. He has contributed to projects addressing ethical AI applications in healthcare, such as dementia patient monitoring systems, and formal verification methodologies for concurrent systems.
He teaches modules including Artificial Intelligence (CS-265, CSC325) and Information Security Management (CSCM08), focusing on human-centered AI principles, security frameworks, and ethical considerations. His work emphasizes reliability, responsibility, and resilience in systems engineering.
Dr Muller has supervised multiple PhD students exploring topics like counterfactual explanations, authentication methods, extremist content moderation, and explainable AI. He actively contributes to conferences and journals, with recent publications addressing situated AI-human decision-making in healthcare and future-proofing engineering systems.
