Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciencesمعرفی
Pd Dr. med. Bernhard Sehm is a Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences, specializing in neuroplasticity mechanisms and motor recovery in neurological diseases. He collaborates closely with the University of Leipzig’s Day Clinic of Cognitive Neurology and Stroke Rehabilitation Outpatient Clinic. His research integrates neuroimaging (fMRI, EEG) and non-invasive brain stimulation (tDCS, tACS) to investigate sensorimotor recovery in stroke and Parkinson’s patients. Sehm holds a MD from the University of Leipzig (2004), a Dr. med. (2006), and a Habilitation in Neurology (2013). He previously worked at NIH’s National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (2006-2007) and as a Postdoc at the Max Planck Institute. His awards include the Alfried Krupp Fellowship (2006) and German Parkinson Association Research Award (2014). His lab focuses on translational research to bridge neurophysiological insights with clinical rehabilitation.
Research Interests: Neuroplasticity, motor recovery post-stroke, Parkinson’s disease, non-invasive brain stimulation techniques, functional MRI, EEG dynamics, and robot-assisted sensorimotor assessment. His work emphasizes understanding how neuroplastic processes can be harnessed for clinical interventions.
Publications: Recent work explores motor imagery effects on performance, dopaminergic modulation in brain-computer interfaces, and structural brain changes post-BCI intervention. His articles highlight interdisciplinary approaches combining neuroimaging and stimulation to address sensorimotor deficits.
Awards & Memberships: Alfried Krupp Fellowship, German Parkinson Association Award. Active in the Society for Neuroscience and German Society for Neurology (DGN).
