Professor Bernet Elzinga is a faculty member at Leiden University, specializing in stress-related psychopathology. Her research integrates epidemiology, neuroimaging, behavioral observations, and electronic diaries to study the long-term impacts of childhood psychological abuse and neglect on brain development and mental health across generations. She emphasizes family and intergenerational perspectives, challenging traditional individual-focused approaches.
