Bernd Zechmann

Dr. Bernd Zechmann is a Research Professor and Director of the Center for Microscopy and Imaging (CMI) at Baylor University, located in the Baylor Sciences Building. He leads a research program focused on ultrastructural analysis of stress responses in plants, bacteria, and human pathogens using advanced electron and light microscopy techniques.

His recent publications (2021–2024) reflect a strong trend in advanced microscopy applications across diverse systems—from plant-virus interactions and fungal pathogenesis to bacterial biofilms and human cell ultrastructure. There is a consistent emphasis on redox dynamics, stress adaptation, and methodological innovation, particularly in sample preparation and imaging resolution. His team specializes in electron microscopy, 3D reconstruction, immunolabeling, and innovative staining protocols. The center promotes training, collaboration, and outreach, including projects on accessible science for visually impaired learners.
