Bernd Weber

Prof. Dr. Bernd Weber serves as Acting Director of the Center for Economics and Neuroscience and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Bonn. He leads the Weber Group at the Institute of Experimental Epileptology and Cognition Research (IEECR) and holds Cluster membership since 2019 within the Transdisciplinary Research Area Life and Health.

His academic background includes medical studies and a 2003 PhD from the University of Bonn's Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology. As Co-Founder of the Center for Economics and Neuroscience, he previously served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal for Neuroscience, Psychology and Economics, President of the Association of Neuropsychoeconomics, and board member of the Society for Neuroeconomics.

Professor Weber's research centers on the biological basis of human value-based decision making, integrating neuroeconomics with clinical neuroscience. His work examines individual decision processes through advanced neuroimaging techniques including diffusion-weighted imaging and structural brain connectivity analysis, with applications in consumer protection frameworks and behavioral interventions. Current investigations explore neural mechanisms underlying economic choices and risk assessment in clinical populations.

The Weber Group at IEECR maintains active collaborations across neurology, psychiatry, and economics departments, utilizing multimodal imaging approaches to map decision-making pathways. Ongoing projects investigate neural correlates of financial risk tolerance and develop neuroscientific models for consumer vulnerability assessment.
