Bernd Hayo is Full Professor of Macroeconomics at the University of Marburg's School of Business and Economics. His research examines monetary economics, fiscal policy, socio-economics, and political economy, with current projects focusing on inflation perceptions, immigration impacts, and economic behavior during crises.
Research methodologies include large-scale surveys analyzing public attitudes toward monetary policy, inflation, and fiscal consolidation. Recent publications investigate household consumption patterns during the COVID-19 pandemic, central bank communication strategies, and the economic impacts of immigration. His work combines econometric analysis with behavioral insights to understand policy transmission mechanisms.
Professor Hayo has served in administrative roles including Vice-Dean of the School of Business and Economics (2022-2025), Director of the Marburg Research Academy (2015-2017), and Dean (2015-2016). He maintains extensive professional collaborations with central banks including the Bundesbank and National Bank of Belgium.
With over 100 publications, his research has received more than 6300 citations. Teaching focuses on empirical macroeconomics, monetary theory, and international macroeconomics at graduate levels.
