Bernard Schneider is a Senior Lecturer in International Tax Law and Academic Director of the Institute of Tax Law at Queen Mary University of London, housed within the School of Law. He also directs the International Tax Law LLM program at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS). His roles include teaching international and comparative tax law, with a focus on US and Chinese systems. He holds a PhD from Queen Mary, an LLM and JD from New York University, and an MIA from Columbia University.
Research interests span international tax law, tax administration, taxation in emerging economies, and the US and Chinese tax systems. His work emphasizes practical applications of tax policy and the interplay between tax systems and development.
Dr. Schneider previously practiced law in New York, China, and the UK, specializing in international taxation. He supervises PhD students in tax policy and administration, including Yavuz Selim Sönmez and others. He contributes to academic engagement through roles like Associate Editor of the Asia-Pacific Tax Bulletin and participation in international conferences on digital taxation and tax treaties.
