Bernard Chazelle is a Professor of Computer Science at Princeton University holding the Eugene Higgins Chair since 1986. He serves as Director of the NSF Center for Computational Intractability and was the 2012-2013 Computer Sciences and Digital Technologies Annual Chair at Collège de France.
As one of the pioneers of algorithmic geometry, Chazelle's research spans computational complexity, combinatorial optimization, and the role of randomness in algorithms. His influential book The Discrepancy Method: Randomness and Complexity established foundational principles in the field. In recent years, he has developed a significant research program on "natural algorithms" exploring connections between algorithmic thinking and living systems dynamics.
Chazelle has received extensive recognition including ACM Fellowship, Guggenheim Fellowship, and membership in both the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and European Academy of Sciences. His 2012-2013 Collège de France lectures explored algorithmic applications across scientific domains from social dynamics to biological systems.
