Bernadette Wegenstein is a Research Professor of Media Studies and Director of the Center for Advanced Media Studies at Johns Hopkins University. She holds a PhD in Linguistics from Vienna University and conducted postdoctoral research at Stanford University. Her work bridges feminist theory, documentary filmmaking, and media studies, focusing on themes like body politics, gender, and Holocaust memory. She has directed award-winning films such as The Conductor (2021) and The Good Breast (2016), and authored influential books including Getting Under the Skin: Body and Media Theory (2010) and Radical Equalities and Global Feminist Filmmaking (2020). Her films have screened internationally, winning multiple accolades such as Best Documentary and Best Music Film awards.
