Berna de Boer is a Lecturer and Head of the Dutch section at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Arts, affiliated with the Language Centre. She specializes in Dutch as a second language and Applied Linguistics, with expertise in phonology and linguistic education. Her research focuses on evolutionary phonology and language acquisition. She holds a BA in Dutch Language and Literature (1983) and an MA in Applied Linguistics (1986) from the University of Groningen.
De Boer has extensive teaching experience since 1986, including roles as interim Head of the English section (2019–2020) and Teacher of Dutch as a second language. She has authored textbooks and participated in professional training programs such as the Mediërend Leren Mastertraining (2004–2007) and Sturen op Resultaat (2010).
Her 2006 publication in Journal of Linguistics explores evolutionary phonology, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to language structure and cognitive science. She continues to contribute to linguistic education through her leadership at the Language Centre and academic outreach.
